Color the Wind 2018
Saturday, February 17th
11 am to 4 pm
Downtown Seawall, 10 North Lakeview Dr.
Clear Lake, Iowa

Unusually warm weather conditions in 2017 melted our intended flying field.  For only the second time in the 16 years we were forced to cancel.
Color the Wind 2018 will be bigger and better than ever if the weather cooperates!  Invited guest kite flyers actually purchased new kites for your enjoyment in 2017 so you'll see many kites that you haven't seen before at the event.
Mark Hudspeth, the producer of CBS Sunday Morning, has indicated that they will come to cover Color the Wind 2018!  Please mark your calendar now and plan to spend the weekend in Clear Lake!

We're currently working with the Clear Lake Art Center and NIACC to host a kite making workshop for kids the morning of Color the Wind!  Watch for more news about this!

How to Fully Enjoy the Festival!
We've invited serious kite flyers from 9 states to provide a colorful show for you this year!  Many of them will put up kites you have never seen at Color the Wind before.
Fire and Ice and 180GO stunt kite teams will be here again to show off their stuff when they perform their kite ballets choreographed to music.  Their shows will happen periodically through the day, so come early and stay late so you don't miss anything!
To enjoy the day to its fullest, dress warmly with good boots, a hat and gloves.  If the sun is out, sunglasses will be a "must"!  Wrap up in blanket or a sleeping bag in your lawn chair and settle in on the flying field for the day.
There will be hot food and beverages available on site for you or bring your own and "tailgate" Relay for Life will be selling home baked sweet treats in the Lakeview Room across the street from the flying field.
If you would like to join the fun out on the lake and try your hand at flying your own kite, you can either bring your own or purchase a new one at the KiteStore in the Lakeview Room.

Color the Wind Indoor Art Show and Reception
This is a wonderful event held each year during Color the Wind.  Volunteers provide absolutely delicious appetizers on Friday evening prior to the festival and there is a cash bar and live music.
Roam through the gallery both Friday and Saturday to see their great collection of original art!  You may see something you want to add to your own collection!

Also on the morning of the kite festival, The Art Center will host a special Kid's Activity!

Paul Koepke, Kathy Brinnehl and Mark Ledvina--"Fire and Ice"

Fire and Ice
Kathy Brinnehl, Paul Koepke and Mark Ledvine, otherwise known as"Fire and Ice" will intrigue you with their kite ballets choregraphed to music throughout the day.  The kites they fly are two line kites.
It takes a lot of expertise and practice to make these kites dance like this team does!
On the "Videos" page of this website, you can watch Team 180GO their kite ballets using four line kites.
