The 18th year of Color the Wind is now a memory. I hope it is a good one for you!
We had the biggest flying field ever with no open water to contend
with! We had sunshine and blue skies! We had some wind, but could have used more in order to put up some of our
larger kites. We loved having plenty of safe places on the ice for the public...and especially those who came to fly
their own kites! We loved seeing so many families out on the ice enjoying good, clean family fun....and all for free!
We were astounded at the distances some traveled to come to Color the Wind!
In addition to those from surrounding states, we met people from Maine, California, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, New
York, Connecticut, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah.....and a wonderful couple from Ontario, Canada, all of whom came to Clear
Lake, Iowa just for Color the Wind. We are always happy to see our own North Iowans here, but we were also happy that
the CBS Sunday Morning coverage of last year's festival resulted in such a big increase in our fan base!
Thank you to each and everyone of our kite flyers and to all of those who
gave of their time and energy to work behind the scenes to make the festival come off without a hitch....from drilling anchor
holes, to providing ATV?UTV transports on the ice, to Bob Wolfram who built our roadways/walkways out on the lake,to thosewho
helpedwith setup and tear down on the lake and in the Lakeview Room. The list goes on and on. It takes a lot of
teamwork and dedication to make this happen!
And it's all worth it to see the smiles on festival day!
We will hope to see you on the third Saturday in February 2020!
